INTERPERSONAL INTELLIGENCE PROGRAMME

Improving your career. And life.

You may be counting on your intelligence quotient (IQ) to get you through, but it's actually your interpersonal intelligence that could determine your career success and improve your personal life. The good news however is that, unlike IQ, your interpersonal intelligence can be increased and enhanced.

Work Dynamics offers a well-established Interpersonal Intelligence Programme, giving participants an opportunity to grow in all aspects of their lives.

What does the programme involve?

  • The Interpersonal Intelligence Programme is a three-day high-level facilitated intervention where participants challenge their unhelpful beliefs about others and develop a better understanding of interpersonal dynamics and the skills required to engage with other people in all contexts -always in a respectful, yet assertive manner.
  • It helps individuals, teams and organisations to optimise their interpersonal style by helping them to shift behaviour that complicates relationships and limits the attainment of objectives.
  • New skills obtained from the programme will help the participants rid themselves of the "destructive noise" in teams and in other group situations. They will be equipped with the skills required to engage in tough but authentic conversations in a respectful manner - finding solutions while building relationships.
  • This process facilitates behaviour shift in different contexts. For example, if one is motivated to change the way they manage upwards (i.e. their superiors) and successfully changes this relationship, they are more likely to generalise their new skills and behaviour to other contexts, such as their intimate partnerships, children, mother-in-laws, subordinates, etc.
  • Importantly, it facilitates deep-seated, sustainable behavioural change which serves to shift team and organisational cultures.

How does the programme work?

  • A cognitive-behavioural methodology is employed as it enables deep, meaningful and sustained change.
  • Participants complete an interpersonal behaviour questionnaire which is used during the first day to help them to apply the behaviour model to themselves and increase self-reflection.
  • To give participants the courage to change, the facilitation style makes full use of humour and irreverence so that participants can appreciate their humanity.
  • Facilitators portray as "real" people and relay their own experiences, shortcomings and personal accomplishments during the programme - they do not present themselves as perfect.
  • The facilitators ensure the ownership for change remains with the individual. Their gentle yet firm approach helps individuals stuck in "victimhood" to make the personal shift required to begin managing all of their relationships responsibly and proactively.

The programme really aids people who.

  • Undersell themselves and want to increase their confidence in interpersonal situations.
  • Need to improve their management skills in a practical way.
  • Want to limit instances of others taking them the wrong way, and misperceiving their intentions.
  • Respond overly sensitively or defensively to criticism and would like to better manage situations by learning to process feedback rationally and respond assertively as opposed to withdrawing or becoming aggressive.
  • Are offended by others' behaviour but tend to bottle resentment as they do not know how to address it appropriately.
  • Would like to learn how to manage others without resorting to a telling / directive and disempowering style.
  • Want to learn how to have conversations around highly sensitive issues (e.g. interpersonal or racial differences).
  • Need to understand why they receive repeated criticism and to find a way to make a change that is sustainable.
  • Feel inauthentic at times, and want to lead others authentically.
  • Want to improve their interpersonal skills in order to better manage their relationships with their superiors, followers and peers.
  • Are inclined to rescue others and want practical recipes for empowering and coaching others to take responsibility and see commitments through.
  • Need to improve their own communication strategy.

In-house and open programmes are run nationally over three consecutive days. For more information or a quotation, contact Hazel Dunbar at hazel@workdynamics.co.za or 072436539.
